The order is expected to set a minimum purchase age of 21 and direct state health officials to create new rules, including ID checks, product testing, labeling, and possible limits on sales near schools. Some stores may be barred from selling both alcohol and THC products.
Industry leaders say the move will bring clarity to an industry that employs more than 50,000 Texans. Lawmakers remain divided, with Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick pushing for a ban while Abbott favors regulation similar to alcohol laws.
