Texarkana police say new DNA technology is helping them make progress on several long-standing cold cases. Investigators recently solved the 2014 shooting death of Xavier Rollins, who was killed outside the River Crossing Apartments. For years, officers had suspects but no solid evidence.
Detectives later discovered advanced DNA testing methods that weren’t available a decade ago. That breakthrough linked evidence to two men — Demontre Collins and Cameron Cheatham — who are now charged with capital murder and held on $1 million bond.
Police say DNA is a powerful tool but only one part of an investigation. They’re continuing to work other cold cases, including a 2019 double homicide, and remain committed to finding answers for victims’ families.
